School Start

For both tradional and year round students the school year is quickly coming upon us. It is important that you have a doctor check his/her feet for proper shoe gear. Everyone has different biomechanics and most people think they are flat footed which is not always the case. It is important to have a medical professional assess the shoe gear. Often times injuries can be due to the shoe gear. Also many school sports are gearing up. A great time to have athletic gear assessed. If you or your child is complaining of pain at school or during sports then call our office today. It is always better to prevent an injury before it occurs or prevent the current pain from getting worse.

Replenish

Please remember to replenish your fuel while exercising. The foot and ankle need water too. If you are noticing that your feet are tired and ache it could be due to lack of fluids during your exercise routine. Always important to have these issues checked by your doctor.

Summer Sandals

Everyone comes in and thinks that sandals are bad for their feet. They assume that they should not be wearing them. However, in this part of the country sandals are part of the culture. Sandals are perfectly fine to wear. But you want to watch out for issues. If you are noticing that the sandals are causing rubbing/blisters/wounds/or foot pain then these are red flags and the sandals should be stopped and your foot evaluated by a doctor. Sandals should also be worn in short periods of time and not for the entire day. For example they are fine to wear to the beach but you would not want to walk 5 miles down the beach in them. Lastly, make sure when you buy a sandal that you try them on and the fit is perfect and they feel comfortable. Enjoy your summer sandal!!

Leg Cramps

Leg cramps are a common complaint. These can be a result of many different causes: improper socks/poor circulation/exercise induced/heart problems and the list goes on. This is an important reason to see a doctor. These issues can be treated and if not seen early can lead to more severe problems. The foot/ankle and leg often go untreated with the patient assuming the pain will resolve. When you wait you potentially make the issue worse.

Socks

With the warm weather coming forth it is time to switch socks. A common mistake I see with runners is thin socks. Running in a thin sock can cause friction and blistering. The other mistake I see a lot in warm weather with diabetics is them going either without a sock or thinking that the thicker diabetic sock is not needed. These are both myths and should be avoided in diabetics. It is important to maintain proper socks and thickness depending on the medical history and activity level. If you or someone you know is unsure of the types of socks to wear please call our office today.
